Jan 12 2006 | China, Peoples Republic of | Chengdu: An Emerging Market In China's Heartland

Highlight: The city of Chengdu is one of the most prosperous and affluent cities in China's interior. Capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu is world famous for its spicy Sichuan-style cuisine, but as ATO/Shanghai's recent experience indicates, is also very much open to U.S. foods and food ingredients. Distribution remains the primary obstacle for imported products in this deep inland city. Best product prospects for this market are outlined in the report.

Jan 6 2006 | China, Peoples Republic of | Leather Show Whips Into Shape

Highlight: The All-China Leather Exhibition continues to be China's premier show for hides, skins and leather products. The U.S. industry revamped its efforts for the 2005 show, adopting a more aggressive profile and setting the foundation for future efforts. ATO/Shanghai provided critical support for this effort, translating the U.S. cattle hides grading manual for Chinese buyers to understand.

Jan 6 2006 | China, Peoples Republic of | Wuxi: In the Heart of the Yangtze River Delta
Highlight: Wuxi is a second-tier city located 128 km to the west of Shanghai, in the center of the Yangtze River Delta. A GDP growth rate of 17.4% combined with a rapidly evolving consumer culture reveals real potential for U.S. food products in this market. A key obstacle continues to be a lack of familiarity with imported food ingredients and international cuisine among Wuxi’s increasingly affluent consumers. ATO/Shanghai has conducted a number of retail and HRI activities in Wuxi, with excellent results.
