Larger than expected production from Xinjiang raises total production estimates to 6.9 million tons (MT), however production is still below the 7.2 MT in MY 11/12. Weak global demand and increasing fiber substitution amongst domestic mills suggests cotton consumption will remain in decline, which in conjunction with record high government stocks of more than 7 MT, will reduce import demands.
