Modern Dairy Farms ¨C Largest Dairy Operator in China

ATO staff met recently with procurement manager of Modern Dairy Farm operations based in Anhui Province which was first started in 2005. This dairy was first in China to be traded on Hong Kong stock exchange starting in 2010.  They manage nine farms each with around 10,000 head of cows producing milk.  They utilized close to 80,000 tons of US alfalfa in 2010 and produced 600,000 tons of corn silage on their own farms.  The manager will travel with small delegation to the United States in near future to meet with US dairy input suppliers.  They are interested in increasing purchases of alfalfa, silage equipment, genetics, and feed additives/veterinary drugs.  The manager told us their company is currently largest dairy operator in China and plans on doubling number of cattle in next five years.  ATO SH plans on including Modern Dairy Farms in EMP funded assessment program later this year.
