Groundbreaking Success for U.S. Ag Exports to China - U.S. Alfalfa Cubes Shipped to South China to Produce Swine Feed

In late October, there was a container shipment of 250 tons alfalfa cubes worth over $62,000 from Idaho arriving in Xiamen, Fujian Province in South China.  There will be another shipment of 250 tons estimated to arrive in early November.  This new trade is a result of ATO Guangzhou¡¯s trade promotion and facilitation.  It is quite possible that this is the first ever U.S. alfalfa cube export to China for swine feed manufacturing.  According to the importer, no problem occurred during Customs and CIQ clearance at port.  Post believes that it is the beginning of potentially large volume (up to a million tons yearly) exports.  However, the trade requires that the U.S. hay industry increase processing capacities and ATOs continue trade facilitation.
