ATO Guangzhou Director and staff participated in the U.S.-China Cold Chain Standards & Regulations Conference in Beijing July 21-22. Organized by ATO Beijing with assistance from FAS/OCBD, ATO Guangzhou, FDA, DOC, Ingersoll Rand, NEMA, AST&L and pivotal Chinese cold chain organizations, the conference was designed to advance development of China¡¯s cold chain standards. The event built on cold chain work by ATO Guangzhou over the last three years. Opened by Charge d'Affaires Robert Goldberg, the conference hosted almost 300 participants, including some from South China. It provided a good opportunity for both Chinese cold chain players and U.S. counterparts to exchange ideas, explore cooperative opportunities and, hopefully, move the cold chain standards-setting process forward. Since many industry insiders believe that China will soon experience vigorous cold chain development, it is critical for China to have a system of related standards, regulations and enforcement mechanisms. If the cold chain can be improved, it will reduce food spoilage, increase food quality, safety and security in China -- while facilitating U.S. perishable food exports. |
